Wiley Cotton Band

John McKay first put together the Wiley Cotton Band in 1986 John booked a gig at a place in White Plains N.Y. called the 'For n Aft' for
a band he had recently put together. This would be McKay's first gig with a band that would perform his original compositions. At the time of
the booking, McKay was asked for the name of the band for promotional purposes. There was not yet a name. That particular day happened to be John's late father, Wiley Cotton McKays' birthday, so John named the band Wiley Cotton in memory of him. At this time John told himself that his first album would be dedicated to his father which he did in 1998 with the release of his first CD entitled Wiley Cotton. This is the origination of the Wiley Cotton Band which John continues to play under the name of when he performs with a band. The musicians that appear on the CD include Johns brother Bill McKay on piano and organ, Derek Trucks, members of Runaway Truck Ramp, Mark Vann of Leftover Salmon. Band.
